USA Buying Guide

KUMA CONNECT vs. Tethering a mobile phone

Convenience - The main benefit of the CONNECT 4G compared to your cell phone is that it frees up your cell phone for your own use whenever you need it. You have internet at home, right? You wouldn’t consider tethering your phone at home, and the same goes for the RV. If you head out to the store or the beach, the people left in the RV will be without internet.

Signal - The signal will generally be better with the CONNECT 4G, and your phone will be in your pocket, not stuck to the inside of a window!

Reception - Our kit doesn’t claim to be faster than a phone in a strong signal area—cell phones are also designed for high-speed streaming—but it does give you the freedom to tether 32 devices, plus all the other features you get with a dedicated router. Also, as soon as you’re in a medium or weak signal area, the CONNECT 4G antennas will pick up a signal much better than any phone can, increasing speed both up and down.

Antenna location : Tips and Advice

If you buy your CONNECT 4G online, you have 30 days to try it, so it’s risk-free. Get a data SIM that’s good value from a provider you know works in your area. Activate it in a cell phone.

Does the PRO antenna need to be permanently mounted? No, it can function as long as it’s flat. However, the best way to use it is to mount it permanently to the roof. This will give you the best signal.

You could simply pop the antenna out of the RV’s skylight. You’d need something to prop it up and ensure it is flat—a piece of wood maybe—be creative.

Rest assured, you’ll get the best signal available with our KUMA kit.

FAQ's - Customer Support Guide

Cannot connect to Internet

Quick Checks:

  1. Make sure the 4 antennas are connected to the correct ports (2 for WiFi & 2 for external Antenna).
  2. Ensure the SIM has funds and is inserted before you power on the device.
  3. If you have no 4G light, there is an issue with the SIM. Is the SIM registered or activated with the provider? Check the SIM card in a cell phone or other device to ensure it is working

SIM activation by text

There is no SMS Function on the CONNECT 4G router- please activate the SIM in a cell phone first before putting it into our KUMA CONNECT 4G.

Cannot enter access code/or PIN code for the SIM

You will need to turn off the CONNECT 4G router, put the SIM card in a cell phone and disable the pin function. Then put the Sim back in the CONNECT 4G and turn it back on.

Should the WiFi/internet lights be stable or flashing?

These lights should be flashing, this shows that the router is transmitting data.

( Please note the lights are blue)

User Names and Passwords

The device name (SSID) is on the back of the router- the WiFi Key is the password to the router. Once connected, to access the configuration pages of the router, enter 192.168.188.1 in the address bar of your browser. The default Password is: admin.

How can I change the name of my network?

  •  Connect to the KUMA CONNECT 4G and enter 192.168.188.1 in the browser address bar to enter the configuration area of the router.
  • Enter the default password: admin
  • Click - > Wi Fi Setting >2.4G, enter the new router name you want to set in the 'SSID' input box. Click the "SAVE" button to confirm the setting.

Please note after changing these settings your Wi-Fi connection will be disconnected. Reconnect to the new Wi-Fi name you set (check other devices that may need reconnecting to the new SSID).

Extending the antenna cable length

This is not possible as it would lead to data loss. The cable is the optimum length to avoid this. However, the router can be located anywhere - you do not need to keep the router nearby as it is WiFi.

What kind of SIM does it work with?

You can simply insert any SIM (Auto APN) into the KUMA CONNECT 4G Router. It is unlocked to all sims. You can buy a Data SIM from any provider then insert into the SIM slot on the right hand side of the router.
If you need help, we're here on Chat, email or phone.

Does the CONNECT have 5G capability?

The CONNECT 4G does not connect to 5G networks for a very simple reason. 5G technology requires the network towers to be close together, and you need to be very close to one to benefit from good speeds. Our router connects to the 4G network and is fast enough to provide great speeds for video, streaming, gaming, etc.—everything you could possibly want to do.

It’s also worth noting that some of our competitors are advertising their products as ‘5G ready,’ where the antenna will work on 5G, but the router doesn’t. This is certainly of no benefit to the customer, as both the router and the antenna need to be 5G compatible to use this technology.

Is there a way of keeping track of your Data usage?

You would need to check this with the SIM provider. Most have a solution.

Can the WiFi be turned off on this router?

  • Connect to the KUMA CONNECT 4G and enter 192.168.188.1 in the browser address bar to enter the configuration area of the router.
  • Enter the default password: admin
  • Click - > Wi Fi Setting >2.4G, Whether to enable On or OFF. Click the "SAVE" button to confirm the setting.

Power Usage - How much current does this require on 12v DC?

The KUMA CONNECT 4G includes a DC Adapter (Input voltage: 12V, max 1A), it consumes around 0.2A (200 mA) when running. The device must be powered by KUMA power supplies, use of non-KUMA power supplies will invalidate the warranty.

Can I connect directly to 12V source?

The device must be powered by a KUMA power supply. Our power supply has built-in regulation. Using modified or non-KUMA power supplies will invalidate the warranty.

Performance

Download speed has dropped recently

There’s really nothing that can go wrong with the router. The most likely issue is at the cell tower with 3G/4G switching. It’s possible the tower is very busy, or the provider is restricting data use at certain times.

Making calls with a CONNECT 4G

Regarding making calls, this is not something the device can do. However, you should be able to make data calls once you connect your cell phone to the device’s WiFi, using apps like WhatsApp, Messenger, Skype, etc.

Is the router VPN compatible?

It can be configured to use a VPN and uses the worldwide standard L2TP protocol.

I am far away from a cell tower and coverage is weak and comes and goes

In weak signal areas, with our KUMA antenna set correctly, the signal will be increased significantly and the upload and download speeds will improve.

If you need any further advice please feel free to ask.

[NOTE: The main point is that our device will improve the data connection. It does not improve the standard cell phone signal, only the data]

What is the range of the WiFi outdoors?

Our device has long range 2.4 GHz WiFi transmission with a sim slot and upgraded 4G antenna. When it comes to the range of the WiFi outdoors, this will depend on the conditions and line of sight i.e. if there are any buildings in the way, as this will disrupt the signal- as it would a home router. The router part - which transmits the WiFi - cannot be used outdoors, only the included KUMA PRO aerial is designed to go outdoors. WiFi coverage is the same as a standard router, about 80m outdoors .

LAN Port speeds

Our device has 4 x LAN ports running at 10/100mbps

Can I change the SIM when the device is running?

No, the device does not support hot-swapping SIM cards. Please disconnect the power supply before changing the SIM card.
